LED Screens for Retail and Shopping Malls

Retail LED screen guidance: shop window brightness, fine pitch for close viewing, transparent screens in glass and cabinet maths for mall atriums.

Two different jobs: the window and the atrium

A shop window screen has to beat street light coming through glass, and shoppers may stand only 1 to 3 m from it. A mall atrium screen is viewed from 5 to 20 m across the concourse and can be far more relaxed on pitch. Treating the two as one project leads either to a washed-out window display or to a much finer pitch than the atrium will ever need. Retail projects also run on tight tolerances: the screen has to fit an opening measured in millimetres, sit behind existing glass, and be serviced without closing the shop for a day.

Transparent screens in a glass shopfront

A transparent LED screen carries its LEDs on horizontal or vertical bars fixed to a frame or mesh, so roughly 50 to 80 percent of the glass stays see-through. It is usually mounted inside the glass, and the pitch is limited by how much structure the design can accept: P3.91 by P7.81 is common, with wider bar spacing for larger gaps and higher transparency. The trade-off is definition. Text has to be large, and a transparent panel is not the right choice for fine product photography. It works best for logos, price messages, moving graphics and brand colour that pulls the eye in from the street while the window display stays visible behind it.

Cabinet maths and installation

Retail screens are often specified by the millimetre because the opening is fixed. A 3.2 m x 1.8 m window fits a 500 x 500 mm cabinet grid exactly at 6 x 3 with 200 mm to spare, while a 3.0 m opening takes 5 cabinets of that size with 500 mm left over, which usually means a filler panel, a masked column or a smaller cabinet series. Check the load-bearing wall or mullion, the route for power and data, the depth available behind the glass, and whether the shopfront can be closed during installation. Screen price varies with pitch, brightness, cabinet depth and mounting method, so these details are what a written quotation is based on.

Send the screen size, the nearest and furthest viewing distance, whether the display is indoors or outdoors, whether it will be filmed and the destination country, and we will return a written quotation with a cabinet layout and a recommended pitch.
